Has it really been almost 2 months??

I cannot believe it has been nearly 2 months since I blogged!! Crazy!! We have been busy with the new house, school and lots of other stuff.

Anna started 1st grade and she loves her teacher and new school! She has made some great new friends and has really started to become a good reader. She's also enjoying the freedom (granted by her father) to buy hot lunch whenever she wants. In some ways it's nice that I don't have to worry about packing her something, but the nutritional value seems to be lacking. Luckily I can make up for it with snacks and what she eats at home.

I've been busy volunteering at school and am the class room mom. So lately that has involved planning the Halloween party for this Friday. I also come in regularly to help the kids with reading and to do various other PTO related things. It's been busy, but fun. And I really enjoying to getting to know the kids in her class better too.

On Friday we had Trunk or Treat at school and Anna took her cousin Olivia. We had a really good time and luckily the weather cooperated! The kids got lots of candy and then cider and donuts after. It was a great event and we will definitely do it again next year. I did not take any pictures- I know how bad of me! But I promise to take pictures at the party and on Halloween night.

Hope everyone is doing well and I promise to do more blogging ion the future! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

School Days

So our trip to Florida was wonderful!! We had a wonderful time at Sea World and Anna is sure she is going to be a Sea World Animal Trainer someday. She's starting by working with our dog Drake. He's doing great and really listens to her. She might be on the right career path already, lol! The best part was seeing my Aunt Helena and Uncle Tom. Anna really enjoyed the time she spent with them and it makes me really sad that they are so far away from us :(

When I returned home I found that Randy had painted the living room and did a pretty good job too. In fact since we've ben back he's even put up all the new wood trim. It looks like a totally different room from when we started. Other house stuff is moving along. Still have tons to unpack and find homes for and lots of projects left to do. But it's coming along and is looking more like a home.

In just 2 more days Anna will be heading to 1st grade. We found out who her teacher is and I am pretty happy with who she got. I am also very happy with the school as a whole so far. They seem really friendly and helpful in the office and super organized. A big change from the old school. Seems like the PTO does alot of fun activities as well and I am looking forward to getting involved in that. Anna is very excited too, mostly about hot lunch. But she is also excited to make some new friends and do some fun 1st grader stuff! I hope this is the start of a great school year!

Yesterday we hit the cider mill with my Aunt Anne and cousin Alexandra. The cider and donuts were out of this world but we had to bring them home because there were swarms of bees. More than I have ever seen at the mill in all my years of going, it was awful! Anna had a blast with Alexandra and cried when she left. She said she missed her so much, it was so sweet. She really adores Alex and even though they don't live that far it's still far enough that Anna can't see her as much as she likes. They also planned out the smoothies they will be making as they are both big smoothie fans!

Monday is Labor Day and my mom's b-day so my aunt's and cousins' are coming by for some cake and ice cream. Should be fun. My mom said Anna could pick out her plates and such and so I hope she likes Sponge Bob,LOL!

One Week!

In just one short week we will be in Florida! YAHOO!! Anna is super excited to visit her Aunt, go to Sea World and collect shells on the beach. I'll be happy to not look at stacks of boxes! However just the thought of leaving the house in this state really bothers me. I know I shouldn't care, it will all get unpacked in due time, but it still bugs me. Maybe I can bust some butt and get it all organized this week. Like that will happen!! At least I finally have my washing machine hooked up, I was worried I'd have to take my dirty clothes to Florida with me!

Supposed to be in the 90's today, our a/c doesn't work. Sounds fun doesn't it? Keep cool everyone!!

Checking In

From our new house!! We moved most everything yesterday and need to go back to pack a few more things( I ran out of boxes) and so Randy can get all his junk out of the garage. We need to be completely moved by Thursday so we should be fine. Dogs and cats are adjusting well. And even though Anna said she didn't want to move last night she realized her room is bigger and she has a yard full of fireflies, so she's much happier now too!

I'll try to check back in soon, when I can see past the boxes!

Pot Of Gold

I wish I could say I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I didn't. It was just too pretty not to take a pic of it yesterday!

We did however make more progress on the house, including new windows and drywall. I should also have the kitchen finshed today as well. We are hoping to move at the end of the month.

Hope everyone has a great week!! I'll check in when I can.

Calgon Take Me Away!!!

I HATE painting!! I am so glad I like the colors I have chosen for the house because I will probably never paint it again,LOL! Only have the kitchen and laundry room left. Well we have the living room left too, but that needs to be drywalled first so I don't have to worry about it for a little while. Otherwise it's all coming along really well. Hopefully the windows that were supposed to be in Wednesday will show up soon. And even the outdoor landscaping and deck are looking a thousand times better. Hoping to move in at the end of the month, keep you fingers crossed for us!

Poor Anna, she has been stuck at the new house doing work almost all summer. We have taken a break for a few outings like the Squirt Zone the other day and trips to get gelato. Next week she has VBS and dance starts for the summer session as well, so she'll be busy with those and I am sure much happier. I on the other hand to not look forward to adding more things into our schedule. I feel like I run ALL day.

And if that wasn't enough, we have decided to join my mom on a trip to Florida in August!! What was I thinking?! We plan to stop at Sea World, which Anna is so excited about. All she has ever wanted was to touch a dolphin and she cannot believe she is going to get to do it! Should be fun, I haven't been to Sea World in a long while. But the main reason for our trip is to visit my Aunt Helena. We miss her a ton and I can't wait to see her and my Uncle Tom. She is gonna freak whan she sees how big and talkative Miss Anna has become. Last time we went she was only 2.5! We also plan to stay at the hotel where I got married, the Helmsley Sandcastle( see above photo). It's a great hotel, right on the ocean. Anna is so excited to see where we got married, so that will make it fun as well. Watch out Helena, here we come!!! LOL!!

So between all the prepping, painitng , cleaning and driving to activities. I get to not only pack and move an entire household, but pack and plan for a road trip to Florida as well. Sounds fun doesn't it? Hopefully laying on the beach will make it all better. Now if I could only lose 50 pounds in a few weeks too....

Progress

We are making some progress at the new house. I have almost all the walls scrubbed, although some you can't tell- that's how dirty they were. And two rooms are almost totally primed. Windows are being ordered this evening(hopefully). New hot water tank is installed and working-HOORAY! So even though it's going slower than I would like, at least I am seeing progress.

I could really kick myself though for not taking before pictures, the difference already is amazing. It really is amazing how a little soap, water and a TON of elbow grease really makes a difference. I cannot wait to get new paint on the walls, it's going to be like night and day.

We have also met the neighbor cat. She/he is a very cute gray and white kitty. It's also a good mouser or in our case a good chipmunk catcher. We have a bunch of chipmunks living in our yard and yesterday the cat stopped by with one. Of course Anna was there too and as I was trying to figure out a good way to explain nature to her and how cats "hunt" when she said the funniest thing. She said "well at least I finally got to see the chipmunk up close" LOL!!! I almost fell over. She did ask some questions about what the cat would do with it, and she said "poor chipmunk" but she seems to have the whole nature thing figured out and wasn't too upset. I'm glad because she's usually very emotional and will cry at ALL Disney movies and sad scenes. And if any friend of hers cries she cries too becasue she is sad for them. So I guess having a father who hunts and brings home dead stuff came in handy for once.

Summer Vacation!

It's official we are on Summer Vacation-WOOHOO!!! And I am a mom to a First Grader, how did that happen? Alot has happened and I will try to bring you all up to date.

On Monday Anna graduated from Kindergarten. They had a really cute concert and then after we had a big party and lunch celebration. Grandma,Grandpa, and Aunt Anne all joined Randy and I to watch the festivities. She was very excited to see everyone there. After school Aunt Anne joined us for a cookie from the Nestle Cafe and some yummy Starbucks. All good celebrations should include Starbucks,ya know!

On Tuesday Anna's teacher sent home a video made of pictures of the entire year set to music. It was so fun too see how they've grown and all the fun stuff they did. She had a really sweet message for the parents and students at the end as well. It was a great gift!

Wednesday was her last day and I came for the last 45 minutes of class with loys of yummy popsicles. We all ate popsicles together and talked about all the fun stuff everyone was going to do over the summer. I helped her teacher get them ready and then we all said our good byes. It was so cute to see them all hugging and signing each others yearbooks. She had a really great class this year and we miss all our friends.

We are also starting to get ready to move. The closing finally happened and we can now get in and start the demolition process,LOL! The house was a forclosed house that had been vacant for a super long time and neglected before that. So needless to say it needs a major cleaning, all new paint and some other things before we can move in. Right now it sems very overwhelming but I am sure once we get going it will be much better. I cleaned out some of the weds yesterday and found some really nice rose bushes that just need some TLC. That looks better already! I am not looking forward to painting an entire house, I loathe painting. But what I hate even more is packing. I am NEVER moving again and if I do I am leaving all my stuff behind,LOL!

The whole process of trying to pack one house and redo another at the same time is already stressing me out, so I hope I make it to July with all my hair and having not murdered someone! Luckily I have great parents and family who are helping out so much. We could never do this without all their help and support. THANK YOU!! And I hope my hubby still loves me after all this too, just remember: HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE!!

Show Stopper

The recital went amazingly well. Anna's group was the 15th number that was performed in the first half and they did an AWESOME job. They really had it together and for their efforts they got the loudest and most applause of the evening. The rest of dances went great as well. Our Company Dancers are just amazing, including Anna's teacher and cousin. They had some super performances and solos. It was a really great show. Can't wait to next year! Way to Work It guys!!

Now or Never

That's the name of Anna's Hip Hop groups dance number, it's a song from High School Musical 3. Last night was dress rehearsal and pictures. She looked cute, of course, and they did their dance just fine. Anna is the youngest and smallest of the group and the dance is a bit harder for her but she did really well and most importantly had a blast. She's also excited that her cousin Brooke is in this recital as well. Brooke is one of the Company dancers at the studio so she is in lots of dances. She's very good and it was fun for us to get to watch her as well. And Anna enjoyed hangin' out with her and the other older girls backstage. Here a few pictures of her just before rehearsal. I'll post tomorrow how the actual recital goes tonight.

Breaking News!!

Anna has learned to tie her shoes!!! WOOHOO!!! She is very proud of herself and I am so happy that saga is over! I ended up signing her up for free shoe tying class at a local kids shoe store and it was exactly what she needed- someone other than her Mom or Dad showing her. She didn't get as mad or frustrated with them and the fact that the girl told her she would get a lipgloss if she did it, certainly didn't hurt either! They also gave her a diploma and a coupon off her first tie shoe purchase.

Another thing that's going well is Soccer. She's had a few goals and assists so far this spring and is doing really good-when she pays attention. She seems to have a short attention span lately, but when we keep on her about paying attention she does really well.

Dance is going okay. She has a very large class and the majority of the kids are 8, so Anna is by far the youngest and smallest. And the dance is a little hard, so she's not enjoying as much as we had hoped. She likes it but isn't super excited like she normally is for dance. Recital is on the 21st of this month. So even though she is certainly not going to be the best dancer , she'll definitely be the cutest and that's what really matters, right? LOL!!!

Oh, I almost forgot. She made me some of the cutest Mother's Day gifts ever at school. First they painted us flower pots and planted a flower. Then they added flowers they made that have things written on them like clean up toys, give kisses, ect. So cute. Then they made butterflys with their handprints and a picture of their face as the butterfly head. Inside they wrote about why they loved there Moms. Anna loves me because I cook,LOL! She also likes that I kiss her alot too. ANd last but not least they cutout a teapot shape with a face and attached was a tea bag and cookies they made for us and this cute little poem:

Here's A Gift For Mother's Day
I'll try my best in every way.
But when you get upset with me,
Relax and have a pot of tea.

Anna also added an " I Love You Mom" to hers. Just too cute! And she kept it all a secret from me too, which is so hard for her.

That's our latest Anna update. I hope everyone has a fantastic Mother's Day!!

Swine Flu

I am not going to bore or in some cases anger you with my theories as to what is really going on with this "so called" pandemic. But I do have a few things I'd like you to read or watch and consider about the events of the last week. You can form your own opinion from there.

Fun in the Sun!!

Finally some beautiful weather!! Yesterday it was 70 and today they say 75!! Of course I know it will all fall apart tomorrow, but how wonderful to see that summer is getting ever so closer!

So far we've had a great Spring Break! Tuesday evening we went to Gymnastics w/ Anna's friend and they ahd a blast. Anna now wants to sign up for a class. We are still working on Daddy for this one.

Wednesday we met the same friends at Potter's Mill and painted some pottery. Anna made a unicorn and another project I cannot discuss at this time. They both turned out great and we can't wait to get them back after they have been fired and glazed. Later that afternoon we went to the park too since the weather started to clear up.

Thursday morning we met a bunch of friends at Wolcott Farm. It's baby animal time and the kids had a blast seeing them all. It was great to get to play with friends whom we haven't seen in awhile because of school schedules. It turned out to be a perfect morning for the Farm. After we ran some errands and played outside some more.

Yesterday we went to the library and then took a walk to school to play on the playground. It was so nice and we had fun even though it was just the 2 of us at the playground.
Photobucket
Afterwards we came home for a lunch break and played some more outside. When Randy got home he took Anna and her cousins fishing and I went to dinner with friends. It was great to see them and we had a great time. Thanks for a great evening, you guys rock!!!

And I know you are all dying to know, but Turkey season starts Monday and so the hunting saga begins for another year.

Spring Break!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! I know Anna had a great time! And now that Easter is over, Spring Break officially begins.

Not sure how much of a break it really is though. Now I have to find ways to entertain the princess all week, and that's not so easy! But we do have a few things planned already so that's good.

Today I spent the day getting laundry done, so I won't have to do any for a few days and we can focus on having fun! Tomorrow Anna's friend Amanda invited her to go to gymnastics class with her and she is super excited. We are also meeting with Amanda and her mom and brother before hand to get some Happy Meals, which is another big treat for her. On Wednesday we are going to Potter's Mill to paint some pottery, we are both excited for that. Thursday and Friday the weather is supposed to be much nicer so hopefully we can hit the farm and the parks those days. We might try to slip in a lunch with Daddy one of those days too. And judging from the Easter Bunny pic I need to get my kids haircut as well,LOL!

Otherwise nothing much new here. Still waiting,UGH!! And the other day Anna's teacher sent home the date and time of Kindergarten graduation--Are You Kidding Me??? I cannot believe that it's almost time for her to be done and moving on to 1st grade, make it stop!!!!

Have a great week and hopefully I'll be able to update some more this week!

WTF?!!

Mother Nature must be smokin' crack! Today it's a beautiful sunny spring day, but tomorrow 6-9 inches of frekin' snow! That's right you read that correctly 6-9 inches!! ENOUGH ALREADY!! Someone please get Mother Nature to rehab ASAP!! I can't take this much longer!!

But maybe it will freak out those stinkin' Tarheels. You know those North Carolians can't handle 1 inch, let alone 6-9!!

GO STATE!!!!!!

Finally, Opening Day!!

I know you are probably thinking baseball, but I am talking about Erma's Famous Frozen Custard!! Today was opening day and in Anna's short life she has yet to miss being there for it. So being the stellar mom that I am, we had Erma's for lunch. And it did not dissapoint. Anna had her usual twist w/ sprinkles after considering one of the flavors of the week, Banana. I went for the other flavor of the week which was Chocolate Cake batter. Both were super YUMMY!!! And even though she had frozen custard for lunch, I did pack a healthy drink and an apple for her school snack to make up for it.

We are still living in limbo so to speak, but a yummy custard on a sunny spring day certainly helps you feel better. Now if we could get some answers and really warm sun I'd be a happy girl!

Waiting

I am so sick of waiting. Seems like lately everything comes with waiting. I feel like I am waiting for everything with no real answers. Kinda like living in limbo and it really stinks. I feel like I am not really living but just going through the motions until the wait period is over. I am hopeful that this week and coming month will put an end to the waiting and I can get on with the planning, moving forward and "really" living again. I'll keep you all posted and until then you will have to wait with me.

Slacker

I know , I know I have been a total slacker on this blog this month and I apologize. But honestly I have been a total slacker in all areas of my life and I hope I am out of this rut and moving in a more motivated direction. Hey, I am blogging so that's a positive sign!

I also have been helping in Anna's class alot lately. They are making a class book called " The Important Thing About Kindergarten" and I am helping each student write their final draft and picture to go with it. I only have about 5 kids left and it's turning out so cute. It's so fun to work with them one on one, you learn alot more about them. It also helps me gage where Anna is in her class as far as learning goes. Since she is the youngest I always worry she may be struggling, but it seems she's right in the middle of the group progress wise and that's perfect. I don't need her to be the smartest kid, just want her to not be struggling and so it looks like she's doing great. Once the pages are complete the teacher is having it printed and parents will be able to purchase a copy, how cute is that??

Anna is also enjoying her Hip Hop class and has been practicing at home. She also has been invited to try a gymnastics class with her friend Amanda and is counting down the days until she goes in April. She also told me spring is the best time of the year since we have had a few days where we could play at the park or in the yard and they have even gotten to play outside at school more often. We are both anxiously waiting for the "real" spring weather to kick in so we can have 50-60 degree days all the time instead of only occassionally.

Tomorrow we are going to attempt to teach Anna how to make Ukranian Easter eggs. It's been awhile since my mom and I have done it as well, so it will be a referesher course for us as well. If all else fails we'll just make regular Easter Eggs,LOL! I will post pics if I am not too embarrassed with how they turn out.

And I think that's it. I was really sick for almost 2 weeks and I still can't totally shake this cough. So we didn't do too much fun stuff. Hopefully April will be more fun and eventful.

Happy Spring!

For Aunt Helena

Well Helena, it looks like Anna has gotten your artistic talent. This is her picture from art class and all I can say is I don't think I could even paint something like this,LOL! By the way this picture is very poor compared to how bright and nice it looks in person. Obviosly her art teacher is teaching them some great techniques. And she would paint all day if I let her. I plan to mat and frame this one, it's just so cute. I also plan to get her some blank canvases so she can make new creations of her own.
Now, if I could just get her to be as interested in reading!!

LIFE

There is a great kids song by Scribble Monster called "The Song of LIFE". It's a song about the game LIFE, but it really is about life. You never know what's going to happen but hopefully you are happy with the people "playing" with you. And even though my game has sucked lately, I'm pretty happy with my playmates. So,to my wonderful husband, my diva daughter, awesome friends and the family I like( you know who you are,LOL): Thanks for playing with me, I love you all!

THE SONG OF LIFE© 2007 Rrraargh! Music (BMI)Words and music by James DagueSung by ScribbleJim

Every time that I play LIFE
I chose you to be my wife
We ride around in a plastic car
Tiny pegs are all we are
It doesn't matter what job I find
You're always there, you're still my bride
Sometimes I teach, sometimes I write
A doctor, lawyer, it's all alright

'Cause I, love you And I, love LIFE

We'll buy a house and have some kids
No more that four or they won't fit
Our girls are pink, the boys are blue
Our little girl looks just like you
We might be broke or might be rolling in dough
Where this road leads, I don't know
It's all a part of playing the game
I wouldn't have it any other way

'Cause I, love you And I, love LIFE
How I, love you And I, love LIFE

And on the day of reckoning,I'll spin the wheel, bet everything
It doesn't matter if I win or lose
I always win when I'm with you

'Cause I, love you And I, love life

You can actually listen to the song here:

I hope everyone is enjoying their "game" today.

Groovy

I received a brochure in the mail from the local colleges' Cultural Center advertising the upcoming programs. It seems the focus for the next few months is The Sixties. From Martin Luther King to Elvis to JFK assaination and much more. They are offering lots of free programs for adults and a couple for kids. I was telling Randy I would love to go to the JFK conspiracy one as it really fascinates me and I LOVE a good conspiracy theory. He told me I would get black listed if I went, LOL!! What does that even mean? Does the CIA really waste time following stay at home moms who go to free events about the JFK assaination? Maybe it's more like double secret probation. Anyway I still want to go, maybe I'll register under an alias.

As I was looking through the flyer I saw a cool kids program featuring the music of the 60s and then the kids get to create their own 60s album cover. Anna came into the room and I read to her about what the program consisted of. I asked her if that sounded fun to her and she said yes. She added she would LOVE to make her own album cover. She then paused for a moment looked at me puzzled and said" What's an album?" LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After we stopped laughing we explained about how people use to listen to music in the olden days, HAHA. I even had an album to show her. She was amazed people actually used those things and said she likes DVDs better. I'm sure she'll learn more about them in history class one day. Ahhhh to be 5 again.

Half Way

Yesterday marked the end of the second card marking at school, which means Anna is half way done with Kindergarten. How can that be? How can she be that close to summer vacation and first grade? FIRST GRADE!!!!! YIKES!!! That's for big kids and she's getting closer every minute and it scares the crapola out of me! And it makes me feel old too,LOL!! Not to mention it's a lot harder to blame your fat butt on "baby weight" when that "baby" is in 1st grade!

Anyway she seems to be doing great and loving school. She is reading books, drawing great pictures and maturing by leaps and bounds. It's pretty cool to sit down and have her read her school books to me and write me things in her journal. Of course she usually writes about how great her Dad is ( roll eyes here )LOL! I mean I know how great I am, but damnit I want her to put it in writing to make it official! I don't think that's too much to ask, do you?

She's also discovered the Powerpuff Girls and is OBSESSED! Wants to watch all the videos, draws tons of pics about them and has informed me that she wants to be Bubbles for Halloween. Bubbles is her fave Powerpuff Girl. When asked why she told me " because she has laser eyes, Mom and thunder power". I think I'd like laser eyes too, great for melting snow.

And speaking of snow, this past weekend we got another gazillion inches and it totally sucks! I HATE it and the minute I hit the lotto I am so gone. So hopefully I either hit the lotto or get laser eyes soon because I cannot take much more of this cold snowy crap before I snap!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Do you hear that?

Of course not, it's SILENCE! Randy took Anna up north and I sit here in complete silence enjoying my latte and playing on the computer. So wonderful! Of course then the mom in me sneaks up and feels guilty for enjoying them being gone, but hey everyone needs a break and time alone. So hopefully when they return tomorrow I will be feeling recharged and ready to take on the next challenge!

I do plan to do a few things though. My mom is coming by in a bit and we are braving the snow, yes it's snowing yet again, and go to Penzey's for spices and Plum Market for some healthy grocery shopping. I really hope to find a good Jerk Chicken spice. I love jerk chicken but it's hard to find just the right spice combo.

After that I plan to sort out all the old toys and find spots for some of the new stuff that doesn't have a place yet. And if I have time I want to rearrange some stuff.

And of course I'll have to do my daily dose of shoveling the freakin' snow! I am so sick of snow, but at least for this storm I am at the low end of the snow totals and not the worst of it like usual!

Take care everyone and enjoy your weekend!

Back to Normal

I use the word normal loosely of course,LOL!! But we are back to our regular schedule and it is so nice. Anna was really missing school and dance and both started back up yesterday. She really missed her friends and couldn't wait to start to dancing again, it's all she talked about all day!

I was happy to see that the stores have returned to normal and even made a return at Best Buy in record time. No more crazy lines or crazy parking lots. Even the gas stations were less crowded than they have been in the last few weeks.

I was also happy that I didn't need to come up with any new activities to entertain Anna. I was running out of ideas and she was definitely getting cabin fever. We still ahve a bit of cabin fever to due to the really cold temps and the every other day snow fall, but not as bad as the last week.

Today is also Randy's birthday. Anna said he was turning 16 and he said that sounded good to him, lol! So in honor of his big day I am making a dessert I actually hate-peach cobbler. But he loves it and I never make it since I hate it and well it's probably best I not have any anyways! We also may venture out to the new Sonic Drive In for dinner. And of course we are expecting more snow, wonderful.

Hope everyone is staying warm and has wonderful night!!

Two Thousand Nine

2009!! Can you believe it's already here? Guess this means it's time for New Year's resoultions. I usually don't make any, but this year I have some things I definitely want to accomplish and I am pretty sure I can or at the very least make some good progress. So here are a few of the major ones:

De-clutter everything!! We just have too much stuff and we don't need most of it. I plan to have a big garage sale this spring!

Give up the crack, I mean Pepsi. This will be the hardest by far.

Eat healthier and hopefully in the process lose lots of weight!

Exercise more and hopefully lose lots of weight!

My theme for the year is Simplify! I just need to get back to the basics and I am sure that will help improve all aspects of our lives.

I wish all of you great success with your resolutions whatever they may be and if you see me drinking a Pepsi please KICK MY ASS, LOL!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
